Who We Are
The two cuties you see are Lyla & Buddy, the foundation of Siblings on the Spectrum, and you guessed it- they are autistic siblings. They are now 10 & 9, but that black & white picture you see on our home page was taken in 2017 by me, their mom, shortly after getting the phone call with their official autism diagnosis. And after taking that picture I remember thinking- they are still the same little humans that they were before I got that phone call.
A diagnosis doesn’t change who they are, but it does help provide clues as to how to best support each of them as they navigate this world.
For several years now, their dad & I have been immersed in a world of researching. And in a world full of money-grabbing schemes, “cures” and snake oil, the most valuable tools we’ve come across have been from neurodiversity-affirming therapists and especially autistic adults, whose voices we hold dearest. Being neurodiversity-affirming is to accept, embrace, and support people of all neurotypes. In this community, we support. We don’t try to “fix” someone to force them to fit into a neurotypical mold. And we’re doing all we can to emphasize this for our children and for others.
The products in this shop were designed with advocacy in mind. By purchasing, you’re not only supporting our family’s small business- you are also joining us and others as exponents in this crucial neurodiversity-affirming movement.
